ATM Intel is king of both price and performance. I hated buying intel, but there's really no choice right now. - Biostar and ASRock are coming up as decent brands to use if you're not intending to overclock much
Aside from that, I haven't kept up with AMD vs. Intel with P/P (price per performance) or AMD vs. nVIDIA to adequately judge your CPU and GPU.
I would consider SLI'ing two cheaper GPUs rather than buying one unless you plan on eventually SLI'ing 2 more expensive cards. The GTX 460s are cheap and pretty powerful SLI'd.
