I would unquestionably attend. Would be a blast, and I've actually got some skrilla to book flights with now.

If we're going to Texas, why not Austin?

Also down with Vegas, Portland only if during the summer. Should actually be going there for work. Definitely in for Knox.

I'm 21, vegas would actually be pretty dope nowSears wrote:I've had the idea of a final 1.3 LAN next summer on the back-burner for awhile, kind of waiting to see how things go with people playing the game online over the next year before I make any official planning efforts. I did have a poll on the front page for awhile, and most people indicated they would be interested in attending if something worked out.
If we do another LAN, I think we should go as big as we can, and try find a time/place that would allow us to get as many past/present players to attend. Las Vegas actually makes a lot of sense as a location, as airfare is pretty cheap (about $175 round trip from Portland), and it's close enough for a lot of SoCal people to drive. I think there would be quite a few past players that would make a weekend trip to vegas for one last DoD lan/party, but who really knows.
I have good friends are on staff at pdxlan back in Portland, and they've been willing to help me out with planning and getting in touch with potential sponsors for prizes.
As far as planning goes, I've had a few conversations with the owners of a lan center in vegas. But, nothing more as of yet. They seemed open to helping us out though, and said that they would probably be able to work with nearby cheap hotels and possibly airlines for discounts (vegas has a lot of this kind of stuff, another bonus to the location).
I'm going to try and stop by and chat with them in person when I'm in vegas in this upcoming January.
So, is it worth pursuing this any further? Would any of you nerds actually go?

Re: Dod lan?
im sure everyone would agree that out of all the potential places, hong kong would be the cheapest (once you get here). actually i would be against hong kong considering i am going to be back in the states when this would happen. nice try alex, nice tryalex kirk wrote:If we're going to Texas, why not Austin?

a couple of years ago some people were talking about the possibility of doing a lan, and i checked into things in austin. found a place then that looked pretty good. if we ever get serious about this, i can look more into it. TekRepublik
austin would be a sick city to do a lan, itd be cheaper than vegas (flights from ny-austin are under 100), and itd be central US for west and east coasters. i dont know if youve heard of sixth street, but basically the entire stretch of the downtown (like 20-30 blocks), its bar after bar after bar with live music in each (i looked it up lol, 56 bars). just throwing that out.
and its hipster enough for alex to come and feel at home.

I've just never been to Austin, and I hear wonderful things. I'd be down for more east coast or Pacific Northwest, too. No interest in SoCal, personally!
