I don't know if I could live there because it's too hot. I need more temperate weather.

Just to clarify, I would never try to do a Portland DoD LAN, as there are so few of us that live in the Northwest, I was simply saying that I have good contacts on the pdxlan staff that have offered to help me plan a LAN and put me in contact with their sponsors. Which is pretty god damn helpful.

The huge upside to Vegas is the affordable travel costs, as well as the over-21 activities. For instance for me personally, round-trip airfare and 4 nights hotel and a rental car in Vegas can be as little as $400 from Portland. It would cost me $500 just for airfare to Chicago. In the event that we could get group rates/discounts on airfare/lodging, which is relatively easy to accomplish in Vegas, the cost continues to go down.

I understand the downside to Vegas, as it's not a place that I frequent, but logistically it actually makes a lot of sense for a small community like ours that is spread out all over the place. I am looking into Dallas as well, just seems much more expensive.

dallas is going to be more expensive than austin with MUCH less to do. granted itd be more laid back than las vegas but the bar scene is one of the best in the country. southwest will fly round-trip into austin.

just throwing that out there. if people are interested in texas, austin is probably better than dallas

EDIT: some flights into dallas are significantly cheaper, depends where youre flying out of.

portland-austin=129
new york-austin=97
los angeles-austin=169
chicago-austin=170

Haven't been able to find a venue in Dallas either, I'll look into Austin. Those are one-way prices btw, and not sure where you are getting those numbers. My search for Southwest (include taxes/fees):

portland-austin= $310
new york-austin= $476
los angeles-austin= $380
chicago-austin= $380

Those are more realistic numbers.

For anyone that cares Boston-Austin= $353 with taxes

Cheaper than vegas, at least for boston.

Boston-Vegas= $513
