I've been in NC since I left California 6 years ago dude. I reenlisted in 2008 and now I am getting out next year. Not sure where I plan on going after that. It's good to know you are doing ok. That's some serious shit that I don't think many people would be able to handle.

"Practicing" zen I found to be greatly beneficial, and recommend it to anyone/everyone. I'm a very private person when it comes to this journey & only family/close friends know, but it's cathartic especially with a sense of anonymity over the internet. But frankly here's many people here that I trust and care about their livelihood, and vice-versa.

I was going through some health issues several years ago, which is one of the reasons Nick thought that I had passed away when I fake died. Not quite as severe as what you are going through, but I none the less got to the point where we were unsure if I was ever going to recover, and it was a slow journey out of that mess.

It definitely gave me a new perspective on life, and becoming a practitioner of zen (mindfulness) was a big part of that, a byproduct being that I often just don't seem to worry about or feel the need to chase after most things people do at my age (careers, wives, houses, babies, etc). For instance, I recently quit my nearly six-figure job that had me on the road 300 days a year to move back to Corvallis, OR to be a glorified teaching assistant and backpack almost every weekend, lulz. I also spend a good deal of time on 1911 in 2012...

Hope thing continue to improve brosef, keep us posted.
