Hello grande DoD 1.3 community,
I have come forth today to ask this revered body to consider taking an active role on http://www.reddit.com/r/dayofdefeat to help push day of defeat brand into the future and also help bring to light the glory days of 1.3.
As I am sure most of you already know, reddit is one of the biggest social media platforms out there right now and it has done wonders for connecting people with similar interests. In order to bridge the community gaps between pubbers, 1.3, dods, competitive, etc. we should take an active role in promoting the game and showing those who currently sub to the community what the competitive game play and nostalgia 1.3 has/had to offer. From what I can tell it mostly consists of DoD:S pubbers and such but we can swoop in and not only show off some old stuff but help generate some buzz and breathe some new life into the Day of Defeat title. I have seen some legendary names from the 1.3 community posting on /r/dayofdefeat before so it isn't like this is a new thing. We just need to get more active to help with the games future and Valve's urgency to create us a new dod iteration.
Games like LoL, CSGO, Dota, and tons more have all benefited from having active communities. Countless game patches and changes have come from redditors suggestions alone. I think this will give not only the 1.3 community some life but the dod name more life.
1.3 days are way gone and I for one would love to see a new dod that we all have a say in and given Valve's history of listening to reddit, I think this is the best way we can achieve this. DoD 1.3 thrived at the height of cs 1.6 and now the CSGO is getting bigger and bigger now is a perfect time to push for the day of defeat game we want to see.
I am not saying abandon 1911, all I am saying is let's generate some buzz by posting some frag movies and some threads about how great 1.3 was as a competitive game.
Forgive the formatting and the rambling on, this is all of the top and I want another dod game to enjoy and play competitively. I want the game to be what WE make it and not what some pubbers make it. No matter if the content is 1.3 related or DoDS related, as long as it is competitive play/community related, get it out there. The worst that can happen is that some current dods pubbers see what competitive dod play and skill have to offer the game. I may start by linking to a frag movie or something. Jump on that thread and say some shit. Post new thread. Let's get some conversation going about the future of dod. It is time to look past 1.3 as a viable way to get our fragz in. It is time for a proper dod remake.
Thanks for reading idiots
Peace.

Re: Day of Defeat and Reddit
The difference between CSGO, DOTA 2, and LoL is they've all been updated in the last 10 days, DoD hasn't been updated in like 10 years.
Their communities have also grown due to current competitive leagues and major lans. Look at CS:GO, their reddit community grew a shit load in a few months at the end of '14 due to pro players being VACed and the major that followed. (/r/globaloffensive had roughly 28k subscribes december 2013, they had 130k december 2014)
for any game to catch steam now-a-days, you need people streaming on Twitch and you need competitive leagues. I don't think anyone will go and PAY to pick up dod because a couple of guys on reddit are discussing the glory days. It's like walking into a local Deli and hearing a bunch of guys in their 40s talk about "the big game" when they were in High School.
don't get me wrong, i would love to see a world war 2 competitive FPS team based game come out akin to Day of Defeat. But at this point we'll have to wait for CoD/BF to make a "throw back" game to the WW2 era before we see anything like that pop up.

You are totally right. But this isn't my point. I am just saying we need to bring what is left of the few different communities together somewhere and try to push dod into the future. The point isn't to solely talk about 1.3, the point is to get people talking about Day of Defeat in general. We will never get anywhere if we keep bringing up the CSGO numbers compared to dod but we will get somewhere if we at least subscribe and try. 1.3 is DEAD, we all know this. The Day of Defeat title does not have to die with it but unless there is more of a demand and people talking, it will go nowhere and probably die as well. I am just trying to spark something, ANYTHING at this point. Sign the petition for DoD 2 and talk about the Day of Defeat brand in some way and things can happen. Don't let the dod brand stagnate even more. Let's get some fresh faces and conversations going. We have to try something....

LOL William get back to work you pleb
Sadly, the DoD community is beyond dead. Even if people came out of the woodworks and rallied it probably wouldn't do much. Valve already said their main focus FPS wise is CS:GO and that kind of sucks.

They actually updated it to run on Macs last year.wAsTe wrote:The difference between CSGO, DOTA 2, and LoL is they've all been updated in the last 10 days, DoD hasn't been updated in like 10 years.
