New graphics card advice, please help!

Post by sevEN »

Ok so here are my current specs:

CASE: coolermaster HAF 922
MOBO: asus P8Z77
GFX CARD: GTX 660 Ti 2GB
PROCESSOR: i5-3570K Ivy Bridge
RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB DDR3 12800
PSU: COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power Plus
SSD: SAMSUNG 830 Series 128GB ssd
STORAGE DRIVE: TOSHIBA 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s
DVD BURNER: asus 24x dvd burner

I primarily play cs:go. hell, that is literally the only game i play.

the couple people i talked to both said the same thing that the gfx card is "bottlenecking" my performance and/or that is the piece that should be upgraded first.

One of them recommended me this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... ageSize=30

Is there anyone who is very experienced with computers who can help me confirm this idea? Or, is it more important to spend my money on upgrading the processor first?

My budget is 340$. i sold a few skins via paypal so that is what i currently have in there. I would like to keep it at that so it doesnt dip into my real money.

Any help or advice based off my current specs would be appreciated.

I was playing csgo heavily and bought a new rig just for it. from what I could gather, it lies in what res you use. I could only play at 1920x1080 and that sacrificed my fps a lot. long story short I bought a EVGA GTX 980 4gb SC and voila, 300 fps no matter what situation. if you want to alt tab much to check reddit hltv org and watch twitch while you're waiting for another round then you could think on upgrading your processor as well.

good luck buddy

What I did was I had reddit open in the steam community so I didn't have to ALT tab out.

Geez, if your videocard is bottlenecking then I dun goofed on my last computer build.

660gtx
i5-4670k

I can play farcry on decent settings with okay fps, was thinking about getting something more powerful, but I only play a few hours on the weekends. Not sure I want to spend a few hundred bucks on something I never use. Like that **** 4k hd tv I bought...

ya different games are heavy on cpu and others are heavy on gpu. csgo is cpu heavy but i read and gathered that if you have a good enough processor, graphics becomes the main priority. and anything i5 is good enough as far as cpu

I think you went a little overkill.

I sold my super system and have been rocking an i5-3330 + gtx 750 ti.

I am in the entire rig for $325 and pretty much max whatever I play at 1080p, which is Dota 2 mostly these days. Does great in CS:GO too.

That new GTX 960 is quite nice as well for higher-end 1080p stuff.

I would also like to point out that you should return that graphics card and get the updated EVGA version.

As EVGA puts it: "This enhanced model offers improved cooling, double BIOS support, new display output configuration and 6 power phases for robust overclocking support."

The 6 power phases is really what makes the most difference here. Given the prices are the exact same, it would be stupid of you not to exchange it for the current model.

Just a heads up if you ordered the one in your Amazon link.
