In regards to player visibility: I feel like it would be much harder to make players stand out with current technology. Back then, the background textures tended be significantly blurrier and made the players stand out. It has been so much harder seeing players in newer games.

I kind of agree. This is part of the "realism" vs. "competitive" orientation I was talking about.ward wrote:In regards to player visibility: I feel like it would be much harder to make players stand out with current technology. What competitive player didn't turn particle effects off in DoD 1.3? Simplicity and clarity makes for good competitive play and all the dust/fog/flashes/ambient noise makes it more like SPR/Band of Brothers or whatever but diminishes competitive potential. Hopefully there are settings to turn that stuff down and the maps don't have too much clutter in the scenery.

Re: Days of War
This reminds me of the problem that plagued games on the old engine: graphical fidelity. When it comes to competition, sponsors would want a game that is both spectator-friendly and which showcases their product (such as a graphics card or monitor, etc). Good graphics in a game would sell more hardware, etc.

I like the game so far. It isn't at the same level as 1.3, but it is much better than source. I think this game is more like what people were hoping source would be.

We (brazilians) have been playing a lot and aside of the graphical issues like weapons dropped glitching on the floor and being stuck in some areas of the ground the game feels competitivey playable. It will only get good from where it stands now.
