Most dominant clan ever.
Re: Most dominant clan ever.
SAC was the most dominate team, I think alot of people leave them out because they were so oldschool. However, they destroyed everyone, and left you in awe as they would bunny hop by at 90mph and rock your helmet off with the garand.
101st was always good, but even when they were at the top, I never felt them to be dominate, they were always pretty equal with the top 4 at their peak...
Man I miss playing... I was with KiS, then when things got more popular I was with Cosa. Eventually as my time dwindled I played with 38th in main for fun.

Re: Most dominant clan ever.
SAC was a dominate team, but they only played DoD for about a year at the very beginning (01-02). They were unstoppable those first two seasons of STA, but there wasn't really a whole lot of other competition besides 101st, and even they hadn't grown into their own yet. But, 1.3b DoD was a totally different game than the late betas even, let alone post-retail. It was default half-life deathmatch with some kind of ww2 looking skins and models. That's why SAC was so good, they were a legit quake team that had been playing that style of game for years. SAC never played in CAL, and called it quits to go back to quake after beta 2.0 was released. So, while you have to mention them in the historical discussion, you can't give them the distinction of the "most dominant" DoD clan overall.raz0r wrote:SAC was the most dominate team, I think alot of people leave them out because they were so oldschool. 101st's legacy suffers for a lot of the same reasons that SAC's does. The game just wasn't very mature when they were at their peak. People also forget that 101st started as a PUB CLAN, but adapted to becoming a competitive team as the competitive community matured. They picked up were SAC left off after they left the game, but they were really only "dominant" in the short period between when Beta 2.0 and Beta 3.0. By the time 101st was to the point where they had the opportunity to dominate for a long period of time, they had to face competition from teams like Nt, ve, NUDE, hb, etc. And they ultimately couldn't get a leg up to really dominate the 3.1b era over the rest of those teams. As a result the 3.1b era goes to ve`, with NUDE, Nt, hb, and 101st just behind them.raz0r wrote:101st was always good, but even when they were at the top, I never felt them to be dominate, they were always pretty equal with the top 4 at their peak...
I think that's what made the 3.1b era so much fun, both to play and to watch as a part of the community. There were so many good teams at the very top: 101st, Nt, ve, hb, NUDE, iLan, etc., but also a group of really strong second-tier invite teams that could hang with any of the 1st-tier teams on a good day (63rd, devil, 5.o, etc).
Post-retail, the game was in large part dominated by mostly the same groups of players comprising the same 10 or so teams for the last 5-6 years of competitive DoD. And that's why x6/coL win the "most dominant" clan in DoD history argument by default. They were a full step above the rest of the teams during the peak competitive years of the game. It's too bad that so many of those great players from 3.1 didn't keep playing the game, as the parity of skill at the invite level really suffered post-retail.

Re: Most dominant clan ever.
no but srsly, The way I see it is in three eras (I'm not counting beta because that was an entirely different game)
1) up to and including Summer CPL 2005:
GW/x6. Even though veracity put together a very dominant season (possibly 2? I can't remember) of CAL-i, they really dropped the ball on LAN. coL was also very good but kind of a clear cut 2nd, as the tournament showed.
2) Between CPL 2005 and WSVG 2006:
coL. With the majority of the x6 guys not competing, and the only one who was on their squad, it easily solidified them as the most dominant. They wrecked everyone online (except for hsb in scrims, of course), and won WSVG. PK and rS were both very good at this time too, but couldn't really take a decisive win over coL from what I remember.
3) Post WSVG 2006 and the rapid decline in popularity:
I don't know anything about online play since 2006, but I went to a decent amount of LANs. I think the thunder/jetty guys with jaggon and ryanemo were clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the guys we played against at those tournaments. I'm not sure if these guys were the best online too, but it seems as if there's always a team or two of guys that either don't show up to LANs or don't do well at them. I always wondered how their style would have matched up against me back when my aim/reactions weren't awful and I played fps games on a daily or almost daily basis.

Re: Most dominant clan ever.
I ran 20ID during the sac era, twas me and Darkhorse (we both later joined hb and formed the first iteration of deadboLT together). When we were in 20ID we kept it pretty close playing 101st and qor, sac was the only team that we didn't stand much of a chance against. The varied rosters of deadbolt usually started strong and fell apart due to inactivity or something. we were never what one would call anywhere near top of invite, but i like to think we were pretty decent most of the time.
I do miss darkhorse( or bryan), spent alot of time playing this game with him.
anyways, yah sac was by far the most dominant team if you go solely by win to loss ratio. They never lost, not once in the time they played. It was shorter than most others but still, it was ridiculous.

<3 you scotty for being the first person in the thread to even give our any team credit. I felt like the run we went on for about 4 or so years there was pretty crazy and warranted at least a couple mentions on here, we won every season/lan we competed in other than ONE cevo season when our roster was totally gutted and I just basically kept the team alive with ryan for the sake of playing. those days are clearly a year or so behind us now though. gg tonight btw. shit could have gone either way.

Thanks for keeping the site alive. I quit before retail due to shadowbane. Played with MaX, plex, tkz, vArmint, strife in beta to name a few. Nude josh was my biggest rival. Yeah I sent him demos then he shut up.

If you're who I think you are then I believe you were caught cheating? Yes for you younger doders people had to actually cheat to compete with my greatness.betaplayer wrote:Thanks for keeping the site alive. I quit before retail due to shadowbane.
