The pug system is a no go. For this to go well, we need teams that are well organized and ready to play.
The direction we are heading:
$5,000 Cash Prize Pool. $3,000 - First Place, $1,500 - Second Place, $500 - Third Place.
The event would be capped at 16 teams.
There would be online seeding, teams will know their seeds before heading to the event.
There would be no byoc, just tournament sponsored computers.
If it is a 16 team tournament, there would be 24 tournament computers. If there are 8-12 teams, there would be 12 tournament computers.
The event would begin matches on a Friday night, continuing and all day Saturday, finishing at noon-ish on Sunday with the finals.
There would be seating for up to 100 people to view a current match via HLTV projection. HLTV would also be broadcast to the internet.
There would be swag, t-shirts, and raffle prizes in addition to the cash prizes for tournament winners.
An event like this would cost at least $15,000 to host. Most of this cost will come from donations/sponsors, with a charge of $45-50 per player. If we get more help than expected from bigger sponsors (valve/nvidia), the cost per player is likely to go down (I'm prepared to make a significant personal investment in this, but I can't cover the whole cost myself).

Sample 16 Team Schedule.
24 tournament computers, 2 matches begin every hour-ish. There is very little room for error, and teams MUST be on time.
As you can see, the logistics of hosting just 16 teams is pretty terrifying. It's near-impossible for events like this to go off without delays. I imagine both Friday and Saturday night would go much later than expected.
An 8-12 team event would be much more relaxed.

We'd contribute as well.
Consider one of the spots already fulfilled, Eric. I already mentioned this tournament with THRASHER and we are already saving money to travel and have fun. Holla @ me USA, I'll be back!

it'd be nice if possible to have 12(24?!?) people bring computers in addition to the 24 we would be renting. that way we could get more matches in.

If we were to have a byoc, I know that there would be a sizable amount of the community that would be willing to bring their computers. However, the problem arises in the logistics of hosting a large network. Managing the space, power consumption, networking, and administration of more than a few computers becomes very expensive.
With just tournament computers, the logistical headache is minimized because we only have to set up a small network.
In the event that we are not able to secure tournament computers via sponsorship, we will be opening it up to the community to volunteer their own computers at the event in exchange for perks. We will be needing volunteers for just about everything (registration and scheduling, tourney admins, hltv admins, door security, etc.)
As is the nature of the community, this event will only happen if as many people as possible get involved and donate their time and resources before, during, and after the event. As planning continues, there will be numerous opportunities for everyone to get involved, and I hope that many of you choose to do so.
I anticipate that we will need to recruit at least 20 volunteers from the community for this to go smoothly. I won't be competing at the event (I will be far too busy), but if we get enough people who are willing to help out, all volunteers should also be able to compete in the tournament.

I thought that was funny too, I just randomized the bracket so i could make a mock schedule and that's how it came out.

Ya this discussion doesn't sound very open minded and honestly almost greedy.
You guys are arguing an individual on first place making ~$150 after all expenses for this LAN. Sure I can understand this in a competitive game where there are multiple lans a year, sure I can see why someone would want to brag about how much cash they have won; in this game there is only one LAN every 2 years.
I think it would be much more attractive for the average player, even open players, to not have to worry about getting a team together and making sure that whole team goes. Everytime we try to have a LAN this happens; a team is made where 1 person has doubts and then everyone else on the team doesn't bother going. All I am suggesting is making this a fun weekend event where we have multiple 12 man tournaments and everyone hangs out together, everyone plays together, everyone meshes together. No one has to play in a 12 man if they don't want to so they can go hangout with their friends at the bar, club, crib, wherever the hell they want.
When there is a team structure people show up, hangout with their team, and then barely move around the event because they are too proud to meet someone new. It just seems more interesting to have everyone mesh than it does to have everyone hang with their "cliques". I would rather see two people who hate each other on a team together then watch them glare at each other across the room.
Just my two cents. Don't flame just state a formal opinion please.

I don't want to talk to anyone outside of the xmvc/koala crew, so I disagree with the pug idea.
Especially that **** Sean Kalas.
Just kidding, but seriously, I would much prefer to form a team. If I'm paying money to go out and and frag DoD, I would like to play with people I know and enjoy playing with. If people aren't social and meeting new people due to online pride, then I probably don't want to interact with them anyways.
