ding ding ding ding

The vast majority of all game developers/programmers are huge geeky pub-type gamers.

It makes sense, but it's been a big problem for the e-sports industry for a long time.

DoD had HUGE issues with this when it was in development. The disconnect between the mindset of a competitive gamer, and the mindset of those developing DoD and DoD:Source was astronomical. This is how we ended up with all the british/para/bazoka junk, and how Source ended up with **** rifle grenades as a main weapon.

It doesn't sound like it's gotten a lot better for CS:GO. Just the fact of what they did with the CT's defuse kit shows how little the developers of the game understand how their game is actually being played.

blizzard also takes an active interest in the competitive community and had a number of pro gamers actively testing and giving advice for sc2. they listened to the community. hopefully, activision doesnt completely **** that up more so that they already have.

Valve ruined CS 1.6 with CS:S, DoD with DoD:S, and L4D with L4D2. Prior to knowing details of CS:GO, what DID keep you from feeling they'd **** it up?

The Quake, StarCraft, and Unreal/UT developers had done a great job updating their games while still keeping a strong competitive feel. You'd join any server and immediately get dominated; you were forced to better your skills at the game to do well. Valve simply just likes to make games easy to pick up for the average gamer. To expect anything less would be foolish.
