Thanks for the reply's guys! I agree, DoD is more of a hobby and really not addictive (yes it is). Luckily for me, my wife (of 15 years) also played for years and years (before some assholes spoiled it for her) and she doesn't give me too hard of a time about playing. The only person I really get shit from is my 16 year old who wants to know why I play such an old game instead of COD. I grounded him his ass and took his Xbox (j/k).
Not too sound too corny, but it is nice to have a community to talk to.
First, I'd agree that online gaming has become one of the biggest hobbies in the mature community today and it can, and often does, cause arguments within families. I have been playing Day of Defeat since 2005 and my girl and I got into some pretty heated arguments not just over the game, because she was well aware of it being my hobby, but because she felt I was not paying her much attention. At first I'd let my pride and ego get in the way and would be like, "I wasn't on that long! You're over exaggerating! Why don't you go find something to do like clean the damn house up you dirty a$$ ho." Well, maybe not in those exact words but you get the picture. I mean, there would be times I was so afraid to get in an argument with her about my game playing that I would literally run back and forth from the computer to the window to see if her car was in the drive-way so that I could exit out of Steam before she walked in. After awhile, I got tired of it. Why should I be embarrassed of any hobby of mine? I got the thinking, and then put my foot down. I sat her down, and my family and we discussed things that we could do as a family. Family life never suffered, we always went to dinners, trips, shows ,movies, did sports together, shopping, we had fun. Nobody was really negatively affected by my game play except for my wife.
She and I talked and I told her I will never just "stop" playing Day of Defeat or Call of Duty: Black Ops", just like she will never stop spending my money on dishes, several outfits a week, getting her hair and nails done, and on gas money to pick up her disrespectful adult children. So we compromised. I feel like we are all adults here. As long as you're doing the right thing, paying your bills and home with the family every night, there really isn't a reason why you can't play your game and maintain a healthy family environment at home. Real men make that shit happen, not give up in order to make his wife/spouse happy or feel "loved or wanted". That's why you married her, right? You could be out doing something worse....MUCH worse. Sounds like she needs to be the one compromising.
I basically have 2 vices, poker and video games. My wife has come to understand that if I am bored I will be doing one of those two things. I usually try to do them when my wife and daughter either aren't home or are sleeping. She has accepted that I have a weekly poker game I always attend and I play DoD on Sunday nights. It has taken a lot of getting used to by her and it still annoys the piss out of her, but she understands that both are things I enjoy doing. I guess it really depends on your old lady and how understanding she is. I don't play for 4 hours each day like I used to, but if I get on once or twice to scrim or 12 man each week I am doing OK.

I had a girlfriend tell me quit playing dod once. I just skinned her, and now I wear her while I play.... Oddly enough, it' feels about like wearing blue revolvers gaming glove.
