Re: Season 29 maps
Thing is, it's all opinion based. A lot of people hate lennon. A lot like it. Same goes for solitude, rr1, aleutian, and more. You can't really say the map is bad for competition because you don't like it. The only map I hear a general consensus on for being awful is muhle.

A lot of people in cs like aztec and cbble, doesnt make them good maps for competitive play.

Re: Season 29 maps
both maps were good for competitive playing back in the day. through the course of cs competitive scene what happened to aztec is that it ended up so much overused. also when cs 1.6 replaced cs 1.5, some maps had issues with the fps count and thus they got removed, making room for maps such as cpl_mill (the new tuscan) and cpl_strike (mirage) to debut. as for cbble, the map was known to be heavily ct sided and when cs 1.6 was released, there were no restrictions about shield usage. i remember that the old eswc forum section had this debate and the outcome was to remove it from eswc (and consequently from other majors). this is from 2005/2006 or so.unpro wrote:A lot of people in cs like aztec and cbble, doesnt make them good maps for competitive play.
Re: Season 29 maps
actually no, back when i started in cs 1.3 Aztec and Cbble where both 50/50 with the community. most people higher than cal-o debated playing the maps. i knew lots of people in cal-m back then who despised aztec and cbble for the simple reason that they where imbalanced maps. aztec is easily worked down to the team with the better awps wins. cbble could come down to the exact same thing.
has nothing to do with how much a map is played. aztec and cobble are bad maps, they just didnt have a replacement for them at the time. if that was true, d2 and inferno would be the most hated maps in CS, and for most people its the opposite.

Re: Season 29 maps
well, back when i used to play counter strike, the arena.dba/mibr team used our lan center to practice quite often and most us were very friends with them. from my point of view you're basically talking about cal divisions map discussions (therefore USA impressions) while my opinion came from what i remember about these maps and the reasons why a team that pretty much went to all major tournament from 2002 through 2009 didn't practiced these maps anymore from a certain point onwards. its all good man, thats just a matter of opinion i suppose.
Re: Season 29 maps
Because while the cpl was running pre 2005, the us was cs globally. No other tournament had remotely the same meaning to anyone playing cs at the time. Not wcg, not eswc, it was all cpl. For a very long time the us was what set precedent for lans and map choices at lans. The cpl maps came about to address serious issues with the map pool for cs, not because of fps issues on aztec.

Re: Season 29 maps
The reason that cbble and aztec were not good competitive maps is because winning a Terrorist round on either map was like scoring a goal in soccer... either a sequence of incredible plays by terrorists or one really bad play by the CT team. It was not uncommon for the lesser-skilled team to play a shutout on CT side.
Assuming neither happened, the only even round was the pistol round. If you won both pistol rounds you won the match... even though you played a total of 24 rounds, the outcome of those two rounds determined the winner of the match. If you lost both pistol rounds, you had to make up an extra 3 wins to even the score on a side where winning any round required a lot of luck or bad play from the other team.

Re: Season 29 maps
All that aside, dod maps can't really be bad... they can be really boring to play. The reason that I think Lennon is one of the worst maps is because of the randomness. The smaller the map, the more random full caps become. The difference between a person dying 1 second earlier or later can be the difference between getting to a good spot, capping out, or dying on your way. I felt the same way on whatever that map was we played last season that was notharrington. Aleutian?
It's not really "bad" it's just a worse indicator of the better team because the outcome is more random.
