This is essentially the same setup as the draft. And by looking at some of the rosters I can easily see teams having a hard time getting 6. Hopefully it works out.

Noted. Apparently what I said got you folks to talk about it, thats a good start. Back to Nunz nailed it on the head. So whats different about this draft versus the others? Tox says its the same damn thing and I agree. Same people that didn't show for the last 2 drafts that caused the "disaster". So lets make a regional tourney with the mostly the same starters, except this time it took 10 years to put together. Guess it wasn't meant to be. I guess my only real question is, why do we do the drafts if they just don't work out? Why not just take 1 or 2 weeks off and get back to the standard TPG League? Probaly sound like an idiot but this is Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

the difference is that this is more of a showcase than a "let's get everyone involved" type of deal, as well as their being geographic restraints on who each captain was able to pick. everyone can say what they will about whose fault the draft problems were, but when I was a captain in the first draft I went hard to make sure i had 8-9 people ready and available to play for every match. however, the 2nd two drafts did NOT come close to that, as any of the captains from those will attest to. I was all for doing another draft but after hearing the horror stories from the captains of the last two it became very apparent it wouldn't be a good idea. but look at it this way, if nothing else this tourney is getting some of the players who aren't involved to a point where you all will really really make a point of being around for the draft if one were to happen after next season. From tpg's point of view, it was not a good idea to do another draft right now so they found a different idea, one which has been talked about for almost a decade now, and made it happen very quickly thanks to the work of cass and each of the captains. people are preaching "how can you pick these awesome better invite players over the im/m players" and what not, but from my perspective, i picked a team that i felt was the best TEAM. not the best GROUP OF PLAYERS. we have guys who played together, are good team players, skilled, communicate, smart in game, and easy to get a hold of. That's what my logic was behind my selections. why wouldn't I make the roster up of 5 guys that are all on a current team together? look at NHL all star games, when multiple team mates end up on one of the two teams, they tend to put them on lines together for the chemistry factor. i just got lucky that most of my team is from the east region and even my backups are guys who we all have played with at one point or another!

oh and again, the draft isnt gone forever, this was just a new idea and something they wanted to try out. taking the two weeks off tends to lead to teams and players disappearing, this keeps the dod going and gives players something to do/watch for that two week span and keeps the interest heading into the next season. you guys who aren't involved are going to get to watch a lot of really good players playing some fun matches (a lot like that tpg invite finals match) and itll be entertaining for all parties. just try to see it from all perspectives, take it for what it is, and just enjoy watching a couple of the matches and see how it goes. for all we know this could be a giant flop too, but it was worth a try :D

I've been avoiding this thread, but its reached the point where it is making me want to shoot myself.

It was decided awhile ago that there was to be no draft. Tox no longer had interest in running it because of previous results. We then created the TPG Classic league to keep people busy for those who either didn't make playoffs, or lost early and to bridge the gap between seasons 28 and 29. So far, from those participating, most people seem to enjoy it and are having fun.

At the last minute, Cass decided to give this thing a shot. It is different from the draft 2 ways. A)The draft was a month+ long, this cup is 7 days long for 4 teams, and 10 days long for 2 teams. B) There is absolutely no rescheduling allowed and no ringers(from other teams) are allowed.

It was only given the go ahead as long as it didn't interfere with the beginning of Season 29. Season 28 will officially end after the drawn out main finals on Sunday the 5th. There will hopefully only be two weeks off until pre-season begins.

Of course, that depends on if teams would hurry up and make their decisions on if they are dead or not. People posting in this thread should decide that first, before worrying about some meaningless cup.

OH THANK YOU FOR LETTING THE SCRUB THAT I AM WATCH YOU PLAY A TEN YEAR OLD GAME!

If this is suppose to be an All star deal I get it...

You talk about keeping teams busy, why not just go right into the next season?
Rather than you elite guys circle jerking each other?

I'm not bitter about it, it's like oh yeah gotta wait for the next season to start cause needs to have a pissing ..

Now with that being said, you guys are talented at this game, but people do not play this game to watch you.

No one ever played this game to watch other people be good, but some people that do play the game enjoy watching other people be really good, just like most things in life. If you don't want to watch, then don't, no one cares. If you want to watch how really good players play the game, then you can take a peek. Your season's not starting any later than it otherwise would, in case you had trouble reading the post by defiance.
