Knees
So, medical question time, again. The left, outside of my left knee, more towards the back, gets these very sharp shooting pains when I crouch, stand up from crouching or just sitting and I tense up my calf and thigh muscles. If you feel the outside of your knee, its more the bottom ball part of the joint. Sometimes it aches while just sitting and during walking from time to time. It comes and goes, but when it flairs up, I'm limping up stairs etc etc.
Am I just getting old? Did I **** it up long ago and its finally showing itself? Regardless, now is not the time for surgery since I have a kid due in December and my dad is sick as hell. Will Advil be enough to fight any type of inflammation and ease the pain?
Medical type persons, help!

Re: Knees
Not going to speculate what's wrong with your knee, but joint pain can be a lifetime discomfort. Paracetamol isn't going to be a long term solution and more recently the FDA/Scientists have LOWERED the recommended amounts. Acetaminophen can cause liver problems and varies in each patient. For infrequent headache/aches I'd use it, but a regiment I would stay away from advil as you have suggested.
My medical opinion is to go to the doctor, get your knee looked at. In the meantime ask for a script for "mobic" (generic meloxicam). If your knee is like wowwtf-pain-level as for the 15mg if he writes for the 7.5mg. It IS an NSAID but it doesn't have acetaminophen and it's probably the best for inflammation. And it's dirt cheap if you don't have any prescription coverage.
If you can't get to a doctor you could try glucosamine chondroitin. It's a bit pricy and you'll want to buy it in like a combo, glucosamine & chondroitin. It's been know to improve joint related issues but again, it is pretty expensive. Take it as directed on the bottle for at LEAST three months. If it works, horray keep it up. If it doesn't, probably won't ever.
Hope this was helpful.

Re: Knees
Thanks for the replies. I looked it up, and the pain is right at the top of the 'fibula". Are you suggesting my cartilage is gone, Eric? I've been prescribed naproxen prior to my shoulder surgery to repair my labrum. Seemed to work pretty well for my bursitis. Is it one of the anti-inflammatory drugs without acetaminophen? I kinda like my liver.
I have good insurance, its just an inconvenience if something like this requires any surgery. I'd like to postpone it as long as I can due to other priorities. I guess I'll have to suck it up and go to the orthopedic doctor that fixed my shoulder. Maybe he can line up some physical therapy and scripts.
I dunno, maybe I'm just a ****, and should suck it up.

I'd like to try taking these for a few months, like you mentioned, prior to going and seeing a doctor. Let me know if this is good stuff.

Re: Knees
ive had a similar issue for years, i have the same issue as my mother as far as i know, she was told when she was in the navy she had very low amounts of fluid between her knee joint. hers got better once she left the navy. mine has gotten worse ever since i turned 13. if im up and down a ladder multiple times in one day, chances are good it will take me 3+ hours and some calming thoughts to get to sleep that night. can literally hear my knee grind sometimes, and ive had nights i worry my knee wont **** move once its at rest for a few hours. shitty part is when my knee flares up and i end up changing the way i walk to ease pain, it **** me on my ankles the next day. ive noticed one of those ACE knee braces from walgreens helps sometimes, but you cant wear them all day. something to try for 15 bucks.
never been to the doctor for it, dont have insurance, nor the money for that shit. shits dumb man, if you can find a way to get it fixed and have a way to afford it, **** do it. it doesnt get better unless you pulled something and it needs to heal. no tylenol or advil helps me, the only thing ive ever tried that enables me to sleep when this shit flairs is weed. stupid illegal bullshit, and medical laws in AZ are retarded.
and meloxicams good shit my boss takes it daily for his arthritis, and when he forgets to take it hes hurting pretty bad.

Re: Knees
Naproxen is often prescribed but it does contain acetaminophen.
It's components are good for joints, but from my perspective I'D ask for mobic.
If it's cartilage related, it's simply inflammation from friction. Again, I'm recommending you see a doctor. Meloxicam doesn't contain acetaminophen and should be okay to take frequently.
As far as the Glucosamine and Chondroitin you've selected, often times manufacturers put well over the recommended DV to up the price. With that said, if you're comfortable with what you selected you can't really go wrong. Be sure to follow the directions and be sure to take it DAILY.
