Pliny the Elder

I was able to get my hands on a bottle of this stuff today. It is a really rare and supposedly epic tasting double IPA. Places who carry it limit you to 1 bottle per customer, and they still fly off the shelves. It also doesn't help that the guy who brews it has had bad experiences brewing in large batches, therefore he brews in small batches and distributes it in very small amounts.

Have any of you tried this beer? What are your thoughts?

I am saving it for this weekend and i will come back and post my opinion...

on a related note, the same company makes a brew called Pliny the Younger, which is even more rare and sought after due to it being brewed only once a year because of the high quality and expensive ingredients used in it. It comes out the first Friday of February, is not bottled, and is shipped to only the most high value clients of Russian River Brewing Co. I'll be keeping my eye out for it in a few weeks.

I don't drink beer anymore but if I did I would want it to have a pedo name like that.

Yes, a few times on tap at my local brew pub and once in the bottle. I would say I am a fan of most of the beers Russian River makes.

That being said, I have a personal grudge against this beer. I think it is extremely overrated and over hyped. It's a good beer but definitely does not deserve the ratings and praise it gets on beer advocate and the like. Same goes for the younger.

Never tried it, but then again I absolutely hate craft beers.

Good ol' Russian river. If you like Belgian style ales, you need to ignore the American interpretations and go straight for the Belgian shit. Try Westmälle, I tried it on tap in Antwerp. 13% trippel ale. Changed my life.

This beer is no joke. I've haven't looked up a TON of beers but I've looked up quite a bit and I've never seen a rating this high.
