You said you have awesome insurance, if you do then just get a doctor to authorize a MRI and see what's going on inside.
Don't start experimenting with pills for different things until you find a solution. You might start **** your liver or whatever.

You must be stressed about being a father soon. I know this because you are asking 1911 help for your knees. LOL good luck and seriously just get a MRI.
I'm a tightwad. If I can save some money on a visit/prescriptions and just try some over-the-counter supplements, I'm going to try that first. I don't consider it experimental when I looked at what was suggested, and be damned that's what its used for.

This is my second time around being a father, and there's really not much stress after you've already had a boy. We saved all the clothes and toys from when my son was born, so there's a lot of saved expense. I'm an old **** compared to most of the community.

It could be that my cartilage is just gone, and they don't do any type of knee replacements at 31. They don't last long enough and would require a 2nd knee replacement later in life. Years of sports, and then punishing them at work for the last 10 years (I kneel on metal platforms and repair locomotives). Guess that's what I get, knee pain!
Oh I thought you said you have awesome insurance. I personally don't have any co-pays and I don't pay for any medication. So yeah I would of used that shit. Looking at what is suggested is one thing but doing a self diagnoses is stupid. Those are the people who get a stomach ache that lasts for two months and refuse to go to a doctor for some retarded reason. Next thing you know the cancer has spread all over the place (not your case, but its an example). If you are having knee problems now, get it checked out! Next thing you know it will get worse.

Oh man you're already on your second kid? Shit, the idea of being a father to me is still staggering. I wish you nothing but luck. Well you are 31 and I'm only 25 (shit dod is almost 10 years of my life) so it seems more appropriate to have children at your age! Anyway, you mention that you're on your knees all the time during work *chuckle*, shouldn't you be wearing knee pads?

Having a second knee replacement surgery is fine. Because of sports, surgery for joints, knees, ankles, backs are way up there when it comes to success rate. I don't even know how they do it. Don't be worried. Get it fully checked out. Spending a few dollars on yourself is never a poor investment, especially when it comes to your health.

Oh and hatmaker, you are a pharmacist at best correct? I'm sure you have a great medical opinion, but that's what it is. I want the guy to get all his facts! :o

Thanks for the good wishes. I pay $200/mo. for my family insurance, and my copays for specialists are $35, and everything else is cheaper. My prescriptions cost $20 at most, so that really isn't too bad either. What's new on this union contract is that we have an out of pocket maximum for costs like lab work and so on. Either way, most peoples' insurance pales in comparison to mine. **** you about the whole jab about being on my knees at work

I understand self diagnosis can sometimes be a dumb thing to do, but in this case I can tell its specifically the joint, and with the pain coming and going, that it shouldn't be THAT big of a concern(although the pain rates up to about a 7 at times). I was actually looking for a reply that Hatemaker proposed, which from the very beginning, he mentioned that he didn't want to speculate what was wrong. Through this thread, I actually found a guy at work that takes the same stuff for his joint pain, and he noted that someone he's friends with actually had cartilage regeneration in his neck. All of that proven through multiple MRIs. So I'll try that supplement for a few months and see if there's any improvement, because I honestly believe it would be something my orthopedic doctor would recommend anyway, and the stuff is only $0.08 per pill.

Kids, you'll have them when you're ready. They're the greatest thing thats ever happened to me, it's really unexplainable until you have your own. Best of luck to you too man!

I'm having my first within the next couple of weeks Polak, and let me tell you, the build up is the crappiest part haha, DoD is almost 10 years of my life too, and i had absolutely no idea about being a father until you hear those "i'm pregnant" words... After that its like the nervous excitement before your birthday, or a big trip, or Christmas.

CharlieGiteau wrote:So, medical question time, again. The left, outside of my left knee, more towards the back, gets these very sharp shooting pains when I crouch, stand up from crouching or just sitting and I tense up my calf and thigh muscles. If you feel the outside of your knee, its more the bottom ball part of the joint. Sometimes it aches while just sitting and during walking from time to time. It comes and goes, but when it flairs up, I'm limping up stairs etc etc.

Am I just getting old? Did I **** it up long ago and its finally showing itself? Regardless, now is not the time for surgery since I have a kid due in December and my dad is sick as hell. Will Advil be enough to fight any type of inflammation and ease the pain?

Medical type persons, help!
Best option is get a MRI done on it, I had a ACL and PCL tear for my ligaments within my right knee. The only way they could tell such was from the MRI. Also one other important thing if its a ligament like I said, blood flow to the ACL and PCL is not as great as the rest of the ligaments within your knee for how small they are and how closely they are to the bone itself where that microscopic surgury maybe required or else it could be perminent damage. Im just pointing out to what I had, and that it could be related so you should get a MRI done if you can.
